Skopje to Štip: a private transfer at a fixed price

The drive from Skopje to Štip

The trip covers 77 km and takes about ≈ 1 h 5 min. Most of it runs on motorway — south on the A1, then east on the A4 towards Štip, since the Miladinovci–Štip section was finished. That has cut out most of the bends and slow stretches the old regional road through Sveti Nikole used to add.

The driver takes you straight into town and drops you at the address, hotel or the fortress itself — no need to park outside and walk in with luggage. The one exception is the old quarter around Isar and Bezisten, where the last stretch of narrow lanes is on foot.

Isar fortress, Bezisten and the old town

Isar fortress overlooks the city with walls dating to the 14th century; every 22 March it hosts the “40 Martyrs” celebration, a custom listed on UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage register. Bezisten, a 16th-century Ottoman covered market, is now an art gallery showing contemporary Macedonian painting.

The Štip Museum holds archaeology, history and ethnology collections, including finds from the ancient city of Bargala nearby. It's worth a walk through the old craftsmen's streets too, past reminders of the textile industry the city was long known for in the region.

Planning your visit

Half a day covers the fortress, Bezisten and the museum; a full day leaves room for a slower walk through the centre and a coffee by the Otinja river. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for the climb up to Isar, without the summer heat. Check current opening hours for the museum and gallery before you set off.

Štip pairs easily with another stop the same day — Kočani is close along the same road, or head further into the hills for a day trip up to Ponikva.

Taxi or bus to Štip

A bus runs from Skopje to Štip several times a day, but the stops along the way and the bus station itself add time, and you still need transport from the station to your final address. For a group or family, one fixed price per vehicle usually works out simpler and cheaper per person than several separate tickets.

A private transfer is particularly useful with luggage, with children, or when you want to leave at a time that suits you rather than the bus timetable.

The return trip and onward travel

Heading back the same day? The driver can wait up to 6 hours — the return leg is discounted, with the first hour of waiting free and each extra started hour charged after that; the booking form shows the exact total. A later return is booked as a separate one-way transfer at the normal price. Planning a longer loop instead of heading straight back? The same or another iSplit car can carry on to Kočani, Delčevo or Berovo.

Štip for business trips

Štip is a university and industrial hub for eastern North Macedonia — meetings at Goce Delčev University, visits to textile manufacturers, and trips to the Štip TIDZ zone just outside town are common reasons for business travel. A private transfer with a firm arrival time is a more reliable choice when a meeting is waiting than relying on a bus schedule.

The wider region around Štip is known for pepper growing and home-made ajvar in autumn, and the town itself has hotels and restaurants if your trip runs into an overnight stay.
