The drive to Katlanovo
The road runs southeast out of Skopje along the old Skopje-Veles route, through Idrizovo and Petrovec, to the turn-off for Katlanovo village. It's a flat drive with no tight sections - the car parks right at the spa complex, no walking over unpaved ground. You're there in ≈ 30 min.
The thermal water and the spa complex
Katlanovo's springs produce mineral-rich thermal water high in sodium, calcium, chlorine and sulphates, reaching around 64 degrees at the source - known since Roman times and marked on the ancient Tabula Peutingeriana map. On the site of an Ottoman-era hammam destroyed in the 1963 earthquake, a modernised spa complex now operates with a large pool and a few small hotels close by.
The wetland and nature around the spa
Right next to the spa lies Katlanovsko Blato, once a large marsh along the Vardar that served as a stopover for migratory birds heading to North Africa and back. Flocks of thousands of ducks and cranes used to winter there; the marsh has since largely dried out, but parts are still visible from the road, good for a short walk before or after a soak.

A few hours covers a short soak; a full day suits a proper spa outing. Weekend mornings are quieter than afternoons, when more local day-trippers arrive.
