The drive to the airport and the Blace crossing

The route leaves Skopje's southern ring road at Stenkovec and heads for the Blace border crossing; that stretch is still being upgraded to full motorway standard, so parts of it are an ordinary two-lane road. Once through into Kosovo, the road continues as a motorway; the airport, which sits southwest of central Pristina near Fushë Kosovë, branches off the main road before you'd reach the city, so you skip Pristina's traffic entirely.

On the way back, the driver waits for you in the arrivals car park, with their name and phone number sent to you in advance - there's no name sign at the terminal and no live flight tracking on our end, so enter your exact landing time at booking.

Border crossing and documents

North Macedonian citizens can enter Kosovo on a valid ID card alone - but only the new card that reads North Macedonia; the old Republic of Macedonia cards are refused. Blace and Hani i Elezit run as a joint, single-stop check, and the wait is typically around half an hour - build that into your timing for the flight, on top of the drive itself.

Kosovo uses the euro. Travellers on other passports should check their own country's entry requirements before the trip.

How early to leave for an international flight

For an international departure, count the drive time plus a margin for the border crossing, aiming to reach the airport about two to three hours before takeoff. On a summer weekend or around a holiday, add another twenty minutes or so for longer queues at the crossing. Give your exact flight time at booking and the driver works the pickup time back from there.

Why travellers fly from Pristina

Pristina Airport handles more passengers than Skopje's and often has a wider choice of direct routes and better fares to certain European cities, especially the ones with a large Kosovo diaspora. That's why plenty of travellers from Skopje and the surrounding area choose to fly out of Pristina instead of their home airport, particularly when the ticket price difference outweighs the cost of the transfer.

Pickup after you land

After landing, head out to the arrivals area, where the driver is waiting with the car. The driver's name and phone number are sent to you in advance once one is assigned, so you can call directly if your flight is delayed. The fare back to Skopje is the same fixed price as the outbound trip - it doesn't change whether you land early or late.

Taxi vs. the bus to the airport

Buses from Skopje to Pristina stop at the bus station in town, and from there you'd need another ride - a taxi or a city bus - to reach the airport, adding both cost and time. A private car goes straight from your address in Skopje to the terminal, no transfer in between, which matters most when you're carrying luggage or catching an early-morning flight.
