Skopje to Belgrade Airport (BEG): a private transfer to your flight

The drive to the airport

From Skopje the route runs on the A1 motorway through Kumanovo to the Tabanovce–Preševo crossing, then on Serbia's E75 through Niš, all the way to the Belgrade bypass — about 456 km and ≈ 4 h 55 min in total. The airport, in the Surčin district west of the city, is reached directly off the bypass via the A2 link, without cutting through central Belgrade.

That's a real advantage for a flight — the car never fights city traffic, it heads straight for the terminal. The driver drops you right at the entrance, at the time agreed in advance.

Border crossing and documents

For Macedonian citizens, a valid national ID card is enough to enter Serbia — but only the new biometric card reading "North Macedonia"; older cards reading "Republic of Macedonia" are refused at the border.

Tabanovce–Preševo is the country's busiest crossing and often runs an hour or more behind at peak times — for a flight you can't afford to miss, build in extra margin beyond the usual ≈ 4 h 55 min. Travellers on other passports should check their own country's entry rules for Serbia in advance.

Timing it for an early flight

Airlines recommend being at the airport 2 to 3 hours before an international departure. Count backward: ≈ 4 h 55 min of driving, plus a margin for the border crossing, which can vary especially at busy times, plus that 2-3 hour buffer — for a 6 a.m. flight, that often means leaving Skopje around midnight or in the very early hours.

Because the border isn't always predictable, it's safer to build in that extra margin for an early flight rather than count on the fastest possible crossing.

Why fly from Belgrade

Nikola Tesla Airport is Air Serbia's home base, and Wizz Air also has a base there, so the choice of direct destinations is noticeably wider than from Skopje — especially toward Western Europe and, via connections, further afield. For travellers starting in Skopje, that often means more departure times to choose from on the same day.

The bigger airport and wider airline base also make it a practical choice for business travel on short booking notice.

Landing back

On the way home, a driver is waiting after you land in Belgrade or Skopje at a time agreed in advance — we don't offer a name-sign meet or flight tracking at an airport abroad, but the assigned driver's name and phone number are sent to you ahead of time, so you can call directly once you're through passport control.

If the flight runs late, call the number you were sent — the booking stays the same, only the pickup time shifts.

Taxi or bus

Overnight buses and FlixBus from Skopje end at Belgrade's central bus station, not at the airport — you'd need a second leg out to Surčin, with extra waiting and cost, especially awkward with luggage or in the early hours.
