A transfer to Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) and back

The drive and the time it takes

The distance to SKG is 249 km and the drive takes ≈ 3 h 25 min under normal conditions. The route runs on the A1 motorway through Veles, Negotino and Gevgelija to the border, then the Greek A1/E75 to the Thessaloniki ring road, with the last few kilometres leading straight to the departures terminal.

The driver drops you right at the terminal entrance, with no transfer to another vehicle or a walk from a distant car park. No special arrangement is needed beyond the confirmed pickup time.

The border crossing and what documents you need

The route crosses at Bogorodica–Evzoni. It normally takes about 30 minutes, but at the summer peak, especially afternoons in July and August, queues can stretch to 2 hours. With a flight waiting, treat that time as an extra buffer on top of ≈ 3 h 25 min, not the best-case outcome.

Greece is in the Schengen area, so a valid passport is required — an ID card is not enough, even the newer one reading "North Macedonia". On first entry, border officers take fingerprints and a facial photo for the EES system, fully operational at every Schengen border since April 2026. ETIAS is not yet required.

Travellers holding other passports should check their own country's entry rules for Greece before flying.

How early to leave for your flight

Airports typically recommend arriving 2 to 3 hours before an international departure. From Skopje that means adding the ≈ 3 h 25 min drive, possible border time, and that buffer — on a summer weekend or an afternoon slot, leave earlier than the shortest possible schedule would suggest.

The pickup time is confirmed in advance at booking, based on your flight time, so you don't need to work backward from the airport schedule yourself.

Why travellers fly from Thessaloniki

SKG is served by around 35 airlines flying to nearly 100 destinations, including low-cost carriers such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, easyJet, Eurowings and Transavia, with routes to European cities that often aren't flown directly from Skopje, and sometimes at a lower fare.

That makes Thessaloniki a common alternative when the flight you need doesn't exist from Skopje, or costs noticeably more there.

Pickup after you land, and the transfer back to Skopje

For the SKG-to-Skopje direction, your driver waits outside the arrivals hall at the agreed time. We don't promise a name sign or flight tracking from outside — instead, once a driver is assigned, their name and phone number are sent to you in advance, so you can call them directly as soon as you're through.

For comparison, a taxi from the terminal into central Thessaloniki is a fixed fare of roughly 28 EUR by day and 38 EUR by night, for that short leg alone. With iSplit, the whole Skopje–SKG distance is one booked car and one price, without that extra step.
