The drive to Pristina and the Blace crossing

The route leaves Skopje's southern ring road at the Stenkovec interchange and heads north, straight for the Blace border crossing. The Skopje-Blace stretch is currently being upgraded to full motorway standard, so parts of it are still an ordinary two-lane road past smaller villages; once you're through into Kosovo, the road continues as a motorway all the way to Pristina, noticeably faster than it used to be.

The last few kilometres inside Pristina itself can be slow - heavy city traffic and a hunt for parking near the centre. A private car drops you right at your address or hotel, so you're not the one circling for a space.

Border crossing and documents

North Macedonian citizens can enter Kosovo on a valid ID card alone - but only the new card that reads North Macedonia; the old Republic of Macedonia cards are refused at the border. Blace and Hani i Elezit run as a joint, single-stop check since 2025, so the wait is typically around half an hour, longer on summer weekends and holidays.

Kosovo uses the euro, so there's no need to change money right after the crossing. Travellers on other passports should check their own country's entry requirements before the trip.

Central Pristina: from NEWBORN to the clock tower

Pristina's pedestrian core links several city landmarks within an easy hour's walk. The NEWBORN monument, unveiled in 2008, is usually the first stop for photos; nearby stands the Cathedral of Mother Teresa, a tall Roman Catholic church with big windows letting in the light. The National Library of Kosovo, known for its white domes, is a few minutes further on, and the old Ottoman-era clock tower, Sahat Kulla, still marks prayer times next to the bazaar quarter.

Bill Clinton Boulevard, with its statue of the former US president, is a short walk from the centre, and the Kosovo Museum and the Ethnographic Museum both sit in the old bazaar - good places for a longer stop out of the sun.

Gërmia Park

On the city's eastern edge, Gërmia Park is Pristina's forest escape - trails for walking and cycling among the pines, leading up to the Black Rock viewpoint, where the whole city spreads out below. The park's pools fill up in summer, while winter leaves the trails quiet and good for a longer walk; check current conditions before you count on the pools being open.

Plan your visit

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for walking the centre, summer is busier and warmer, and winter rarely brings heavy snow, though it's worth checking conditions before a long day outdoors. Half a day covers the main landmarks in the centre; add Gërmia Park for a full day. Many travellers combine the Skopje-Pristina run with visiting family or a same-day flight through Pristina Airport.

Taxi vs. the bus to Pristina

Regular buses run between Skopje and Pristina - several operators, including Albus, Motoja and Euro Linia, with up to around nineteen departures a day and a ride of roughly two hours, for about 10 to 12 euros a ticket. That's a solid option for one traveller with light luggage and a schedule that fits the timetable. A private car goes straight from your address to your destination in Pristina, no transfer through the bus station, and the fixed price per vehicle means a group travels for less per person than buying individual tickets.

The trip back, and Pristina Airport

Book the return from Pristina to Skopje in the same request - for a same-day return the driver can wait up to 6 hours (the first hour free, then billed per started hour), with the return leg itself discounted; the booking form shows the exact total. A later return is booked as a separate one-way transfer at the normal price. If you're flying out through Pristina Airport, mention it at booking; the car takes you straight there with enough time before an international departure. You can also book transport for a relative or friend travelling separately, just with their contact details; the driver's name and phone number are sent once one is assigned.
