The centre of Kavadarci is built around the čaršija market quarter, a town park and a monument to the Tikveš Uprising from the Second World War. Tikveš Winery, founded in 1885 and now among the largest in Southeast Europe, is open to visitors for cellar tours and tastings.

Planning your visit
The liveliest time is September, when Kavadarci holds the Tikveš Grape Harvest festival — a three-day tradition with a carnival procession and a crowned king and queen of the harvest, running since 1964. The town fills up then, so book your transfer ahead.
Lake Tikveš is another ten kilometres or so beyond Kavadarci — a car can reach the dam and the village of Vozarci, but the road on to St. George Poloski Monastery from there is dirt track or boat only. Many visitors combine the town with nearby Negotino.
Taxi versus the bus
Buses run from Skopje to Kavadarci several times a day and take roughly ninety minutes to two hours, but the route only stops at the bus station, not at a specific address or hotel. For a business meeting or a wine tasting, that usually means arranging another ride to the actual destination.
