Skopje Airport at night: a guide for late-night arrivals

Skopje International Airport (SKP) is open 24/7, and on most nights of the winter 2026/27 season a run of flights lands between about 22:00 and just after 02:00. The terminal stays open, but most shops and offices close in the evening, the airport bus has no departures between about 19:30 and midnight, and the mobile shop is shut long before you land. This guide covers which flights arrive late, what you can still do in the arrivals hall after midnight, whether it makes sense to wait for morning and how to keep a late landing calm and safe. We checked the details against the airport's pages, its winter schedule and the bus operator's timetable on 1 November 2026.

Information checked

Is Skopje Airport open 24 hours?

Yes. The airport says Skopje International Airport operates 24/7, and the terminal does not close between the last arrival and the first departure. The information desk on the ground floor, near the escalators to the departure gates, is staffed non-stop and answers on +389 2 3148 333.

Open does not mean busy. Between the last arrivals, just after 02:00, and the first departures, from about 04:00, the building is quiet and most counters are dark. Plan as if you will land in a working terminal with a handful of services, not a shopping centre.

Which flights land late at night

In the winter 2026/27 schedule (25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027) a late arrival bank runs from about 22:00 to just after 02:00. Most of it is Wizz Air, which bases aircraft at Skopje (the airport announced the seventh in 2026), so many of its planes come back from western and northern Europe late in the evening and leave again early the next morning. Typical late arrivals come from London Luton and Berlin in the late evening, from Malmö and Cologne around midnight, and from Bratislava and Oslo Sandefjord shortly after midnight; some Cologne flights land as late as about 01:50.

Two network carriers add to the bank: Austrian Airlines from Vienna lands around 00:10 on several nights a week, and Air Serbia from Belgrade lands around 02:05 every day. The number of late arrivals changes from week to week, and the summer timetable is published separately, so check your own flight with the airline. If you are flying in from Germany or Sweden, our guide to flights from Germany and the one for Sweden list the routes.

What is open after midnight, and what is closed

Everything that matters after midnight is landside, in or next to the arrivals hall, so you can sort it out after customs and before you step outside. The short version: you can get cash, ask for help and get online, but you cannot buy a SIM card until the morning.

  • Open around the clock: the currency exchange office in the arrivals hall, the information desk and some restaurants.
  • ATMs stand next to door B in the arrivals hall.
  • Free Wi-Fi covers the whole airport: choose the network 'TAV Airports' and tap 'Continue to the Internet'; no password is needed.
  • Closed at night: the Telekom partner mobile shop (08:00-20:00), so no SIM point is listed for late arrivals.
  • Closed at night: the Halk Bank branch and the post office (Monday to Friday, 08:00-16:00) and the pharmacy in the departures hall (08:00-20:00, Monday to Saturday).
  • The exchange office in the departures hall opens again at 03:30; the airport bus ticket counter works 08:00-20:00, and outside those hours you buy the ticket on the bus.

Sleeping at Skopje Airport or waiting until morning

You can stay in the terminal overnight, since it never closes, but it is not set up for sleeping. None of the airport's facilities pages that we checked lists a rest area, sleeping pods or a hotel inside the terminal, so plan on ordinary seating, the 24/7 Wi-Fi and the restaurants that stay open. Ask at the information desk if you need help.

Waiting makes sense in a few cases: you land after the last night bus and want to take the airport bus once the daytime service starts, between about 07:50 and 09:30 depending on the day; you have an early connecting flight, since the first departures leave from about 04:00 (our departures guide covers the early wave); or your accommodation has no late check-in. Otherwise a bed in town usually beats a bench, and a late arrival is no reason on its own to stay.

If you are continuing to Lake Ohrid, you do not have to wait for daylight either; the Ohrid transfer page explains the drive and the booking.

Landing in Skopje late at night: practical safety

Skopje Airport is a single, compact terminal that stays staffed at night, so most night-time problems come from being tired, offline or rushed. Do the admin inside: get some denars, connect to the Wi-Fi, message whoever is expecting you and check your route before you walk out of the doors.

Leave only with a licensed airport taxi from the rank outside, a car you booked, a rental car or the airport bus, and turn down unlicensed drivers who approach you in the hall. If a driver you booked is waiting, check that the name on the sign, the car model and the number plate match the details you received. Family collecting you can wait at the airport's designated meeting point in the arrivals hall, near the car rental offices.

If your suitcase does not arrive on a late flight, report it at the Lost & Found office in baggage claim before you pass customs; delivered bags are collected only in daytime windows (09:00-11:30 and 16:30-20:00), so there is no point waiting at the airport for it. A medical unit is in the arrivals area if you need one. More on the arrival steps is in our step-by-step arrival guide.

Before you fly: a short checklist for a late landing

A few minutes of planning at home saves a lot of fumbling at 01:00 in a quiet arrivals hall.

The one decision to make before you board is how you'll leave the terminal. The airport bus guide has the night departures, which fit some late flights and not others. Our airport page compares the taxi rank with a car booked ahead, which costs the same at 01:00 as at noon. If your flight slips further into the night, what happens when a flight is delayed explains the rest.

  • Check your landing time against the airport bus night departures and decide your plan before you board.
  • Sort mobile data at home, for example an eSIM, because the airport's mobile shop is closed when late flights land.
  • Save the information desk number, +389 2 3148 333, and your accommodation's address and phone offline.
  • Tell your hotel or host your landing time and ask about late check-in.
  • Carry a little cash or plan to use the 24/7 exchange office or the ATMs by door B.
  • If someone is collecting you, share your flight number so they can watch the arrival time themselves.

Frequently asked questions

Does Skopje Airport stay open all night?

Yes. The airport states that Skopje International Airport operates 24/7, so the terminal stays open between the last arrivals just after 02:00 and the first departures from about 04:00. The information desk is staffed non-stop on +389 2 3148 333. Most shops and offices close in the evening, so expect a quiet building with a few services rather than a full terminal.

What is open at Skopje Airport after midnight?

In the arrivals hall the currency exchange office, the information desk and some restaurants are open around the clock, ATMs stand by door B and the free 'TAV Airports' Wi-Fi works throughout. The mobile shop (08:00-20:00), the bank branch, the post office and the pharmacy are closed, so buy mobile data before you fly and expect no SIM point on arrival.

Which flights land at Skopje Airport late at night?

In winter 2026/27 most late arrivals are Wizz Air flights returning to their Skopje base between about 22:00 and 02:00, from cities such as London Luton, Berlin, Malmö, Cologne, Bratislava and Oslo Sandefjord. Austrian Airlines from Vienna lands around 00:10 on several nights a week and Air Serbia from Belgrade around 02:05 daily. Schedules change by week and season, so check your own flight.

Why do so many Wizz Air flights land in Skopje close to midnight?

Wizz Air keeps aircraft based at Skopje (the airport announced the seventh in 2026). Based aircraft usually end and start their day at the base, and the winter 2026/27 schedule fits that pattern: a bank of Wizz Air arrivals between about 22:00 and 02:00, then a wave of departures from about 05:25 the next morning.

Can you sleep at Skopje Airport overnight?

You can stay, because the terminal never closes, but it is not built for sleeping. We found no rest area, sleeping pods or hotel inside the terminal on the airport's facilities pages, so expect ordinary seating, free Wi-Fi and a few restaurants open all night. Ask at the information desk if you need help, and keep your bags with you.

Should I wait at the airport until morning or go into town at night?

Go into town if you have a bed waiting and a way to get there; the terminal is a poor place to sleep. Waiting makes sense if you land after the last night bus and want the first daytime one, between about 07:50 and 09:30, if you have an early connecting flight, or if your accommodation cannot check you in before morning.

Is it safe to land in Skopje late at night?

The terminal stays open and staffed at night: the information desk works non-stop, the exchange office is open and a medical unit is in the arrivals area. The steps that matter most are simple: sort cash and Wi-Fi inside, tell someone your plan, and leave only with a licensed taxi from the rank, a car you booked, a rental car or the airport bus, not with unlicensed drivers who approach you.

Want a car waiting when you land?

One fixed price per vehicle. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. Send the request and we email you as soon as your driver is confirmed.
