Ohrid Airport to Ohrid town, Struga and St. Naum: taxis, car rental and flights
Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport (OHD) puts itself 10 km from the centre of Ohrid, and by road both Ohrid and Struga are about 13 km away. There is no public bus, so getting from Ohrid Airport to Ohrid town means an airport taxi at a fixed price from the official list, a rental car, or a coach if your package holiday includes one. iSplit does not pick up at Ohrid Airport: our only Ohrid service starts at Skopje International Airport (SKP), about 200 km away. This guide covers distances, taxi fares in denars, car hire, flights by season, opening hours and how to choose between the two airports.

Distances from Ohrid Airport to Ohrid, Struga and the lake
The airport describes itself as 10 km from the centre of Ohrid and says access is easiest by the E65 road. By road, OpenStreetMap routing puts the terminal about 13 km from central Ohrid and about the same from central Struga, so the two towns sit at similar distances in opposite directions. The old town around the Church of St. Sophia is a little further.
The beach villages and hotels on the east shore, south of Ohrid, take longer to reach, and St. Naum Monastery at the southern end of the lake is the furthest common destination:
- Ohrid town centre: about 13 km
- Ohrid old town (St. Sophia): about 14 km
- Struga centre: about 13 km
- Lagadin: about 24 km
- Peštani: about 28 km
- Trpejca: about 34 km
- St. Naum Monastery (Sveti Naum): about 42 km, along the lakeside road
Ohrid Airport taxi: how it works and what it costs
Taxis at Ohrid Airport work around flights, not around the clock. In the airport's own words, taxis are available according to the actual arrivals of flights, so there is no permanent rank to rely on at other times.
Fares come from a fixed price list the airport publishes for each destination. The list is dated 2022 but was still the one the airport linked on 1 November 2026, so confirm the fare with the driver before you set off. The most common fares from the terminal are:
- Ohrid centre: 730 MKD
- Struga centre: 790 MKD
- Peštani, Labuništa, Velešta or Oktisi: 1,220 MKD
- Radožda or Vevčani: 1,340 MKD
- Trpejca: 1,530 MKD
- St. Naum: 1,950 MKD
Ohrid Airport to Struga, St. Naum and the lake hotels
Struga is as close to the airport as Ohrid and costs 790 MKD on the taxi list. The villages south of Ohrid are further: Lagadin is a small beach resort about 9 km south of town, Peštani a beachside village about 12 km south, and Trpejca a traditional fishing village at the foot of Galičica Mountain. St. Naum, past them all, is the longest local fare at 1,950 MKD.
Give the driver the name of your hotel and the village, not just Ohrid, because the price follows the destination on the list. The same list also covers Granit (1,040 MKD) and longer trips such as Resen (2,140 MKD), Kičevo (2,750 MKD) and Bitola (3,340 MKD) if your plans take you inland.
Neither the airport nor the taxi operator says whether cards are accepted, and traveller reports describe taxis in Ohrid as cash-only, so have denars ready. The arrivals hall has ATMs and a currency exchange office.
Is there an Ohrid Airport bus?
No. The airport states that there is no regular shuttle bus for passengers, and no public bus links the terminal with Ohrid town. The only coaches are the ones local travel agencies arrange for their own tours and seasonal charter flights. If you are on a package holiday, check before you fly whether a transfer is included; if it is, the coach meets your flight.
Ohrid does have an intercity bus station, about 2 km outside the town centre, with buses to Skopje and other towns, but nothing from there serves the airport. From the terminal itself, the realistic choice is a taxi or a hire car.
Ohrid Airport car rental
Car rental (car hire) is the other way out of the terminal. The airport's rent-a-car page lists about a dozen firms, international chains and local ones, and most give their hours as 00:00 to 24:00. Another page on the same site counts only six agencies, so book before you fly and check that the desk will be staffed when your flight lands.
From the airport, the E65 leads to Ohrid, and Struga is reached via the E65 and then the E852. Between 15 November and 15 March every vehicle on North Macedonia's roads must carry winter equipment by law; for an ordinary car that means winter tyres with at least 4 mm of tread on all four wheels, or summer tyres with at least 4 mm plus snow chains. If you arrive in that period, ask the rental firm to confirm the car is equipped.
Flights to Ohrid: airlines and seasons
Ohrid is a small and strongly seasonal airport: it handled 263,869 passengers in 2025, against about 3.2 million at Skopje, and its timetable changes sharply between summer and winter.
In summer 2026, from the end of March to the end of October, eight airlines flew to 17 destinations from Ohrid. Seasonal routes included Austrian Airlines from Vienna, Turkish Airlines from Istanbul, Air Serbia from Belgrade, TUI from London Gatwick, Manchester and Amsterdam, and Wizz Air from Bratislava, Katowice, Wroclaw and Milan. Austrian has announced Vienna flights again from June 2027, but most summer 2027 plans were not published on 1 November 2026, so treat that list as a guide and check with the airline. For routes and flight times from your own country, see our guides to flights from Switzerland, flights from Germany and flights from the UK.
The winter 2026/27 timetable runs from 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027 and has only four routes, all from Switzerland and Germany:
- Zurich (ZRH): Chair Airlines about once a week, plus Edelweiss over Christmas and New Year
- Basel-Mulhouse (BSL): Wizz Air, about twice a week
- Dortmund (DTM): Wizz Air, two or three times a week
- Memmingen (FMM): Wizz Air, about twice a week, with extra flights over the holidays
Ohrid Airport opening hours and arrival
Unlike Skopje, which is open 24/7, Ohrid Airport opens according to the flight timetable. After landing you pass passport control and collect your bags; lost and found is near baggage claim, between passport control and customs. The arrivals hall has an information desk, ATMs and a currency exchange office, so you can get denars for the taxi before you walk out.
For the flight home, check-in opens 120 minutes before departure, and sometimes 180 minutes when the airline asks for it or documents need checking. Taxis come to the airport for arriving flights, so for the ride out from town ask your hotel to order one or call the taxi operator ahead, and aim to reach the terminal around the time check-in opens.
Why iSplit does not pick you up at Ohrid Airport
We don't offer pickups at Ohrid Airport or local rides around Ohrid and Struga. Every trip we arrange starts or ends in Skopje, and our only Ohrid service is the drive from Skopje Airport to Ohrid. If you land at Ohrid, the airport taxi or a hire car is the way into town, and this guide exists so you can plan that part before you fly.
We can't take you from Ohrid Airport to Skopje either. The airport taxi list prices that trip at 6,710 MKD to Skopje and 7,630 MKD to Skopje International Airport. By intercity bus, the trip between Ohrid and central Skopje costs 950 MKD one way.
Ohrid or Skopje airport: which should you fly into?
Fly into Ohrid if a direct flight from your city lands there: you are then about 13 km and one taxi fare from the lake. In winter that mostly means Zurich, Basel-Mulhouse, Dortmund or Memmingen; in summer the choice is much wider.
Fly into Skopje if Ohrid has no flight from your city on your dates, or if the times suit you better. Skopje International Airport is open 24/7 and its airlines page lists 17 airlines, but it is about 200 km from Ohrid, roughly 3 hours by road, and there is no direct bus from Skopje Airport to the lake.
That road leg is the part iSplit covers, at a fixed €145 per vehicle from Skopje Airport to your address in Ohrid; our page on the Skopje Airport to Ohrid drive compares it with the bus and explains the trip back. Struga and St. Naum are priced separately; see transfers to Struga and the St. Naum route.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Ohrid Airport from Ohrid and Struga?
About 13 km by road to either town centre. The airport itself gives 10 km to the centre of Ohrid, and OpenStreetMap routing puts the old town around St. Sophia at about 14 km and central Struga at about 13 km. St. Naum Monastery, at the southern end of the lake, is about 42 km away along the lakeside road through Peštani and Trpejca.
How much is a taxi from Ohrid Airport to Ohrid?
730 MKD to Ohrid centre on the airport's official taxi price list, and 790 MKD to Struga centre. The list is dated 2022 but was still the one the airport linked on 1 November 2026, so confirm the fare before you get in. Taxis wait only for actual flight arrivals, and card payment isn't confirmed, so have denars ready from the ATMs in the arrivals hall.
Is there an Ohrid Airport bus into town?
No. The airport says there is no regular shuttle bus, and no public bus serves the terminal. Local travel agencies run coaches for some package tours and seasonal charter flights, but only for their own passengers. Everyone else leaves by taxi, at fixed prices from the airport's list, or by rental car. Ohrid's intercity bus station is in town, about 2 km from the centre.
Can I rent a car at Ohrid Airport?
Yes. The airport's rent-a-car page lists about a dozen firms, international and local, most with hours of 00:00 to 24:00, although another page of the site counts six. Book before you fly and check that the desk will be open for your flight. From 15 November to 15 March every car must have winter tyres, or summer tyres plus snow chains, by law.
Which airlines fly to Ohrid in winter?
In winter 2026/27, from 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027, three airlines fly to Ohrid: Chair Airlines and Edelweiss from Zurich, and Wizz Air from Dortmund, Memmingen and Basel-Mulhouse. Edelweiss flies only over Christmas and New Year. Summer brings more airlines and routes, which in 2026 included Vienna, Istanbul, Belgrade, London, Manchester and Amsterdam.
Is it better to fly into Ohrid or Skopje?
Fly into Ohrid if a direct flight from your city lands there, because the lake is then a 730 MKD taxi ride away. Fly into Skopje if Ohrid has no flight on your dates: Skopje has far more routes and is open 24/7, but Skopje Airport is about 200 km and roughly 3 hours by road from Ohrid, by bus via central Skopje or by a pre-booked private car.
How do I get from Ohrid Airport to St. Naum?
By taxi or hire car, because no bus runs from the airport. St. Naum Monastery is about 42 km away along the lakeside road south of Ohrid, and the official airport taxi list prices it at 1,950 MKD. Peštani (1,220 MKD) and Trpejca (1,530 MKD) are on the way and on the same list.
Does iSplit pick up at Ohrid Airport?
No. We don't offer pickups at Ohrid Airport or local rides around Ohrid and Struga. Our Ohrid service is a private car from Skopje International Airport (SKP) to your address in Ohrid at a fixed €145 per vehicle, for travellers who fly into Skopje. If you land at Ohrid, use the official airport taxi or rent a car.
Is Ohrid Airport open 24 hours?
No. Ohrid Airport opens according to the flight timetable, unlike Skopje, which runs 24/7. Taxis also work around actual arrivals, so there is no rank to rely on between flights. For departures, check-in opens 120 minutes before the flight and sometimes 180 minutes, so order your taxi from town in good time.
Flying into Skopje instead?
We don't pick up at Ohrid Airport. If you land at Skopje Airport, a driver can take you straight to Ohrid at one fixed price per vehicle: they wait in Skopje Airport's arrivals hall with your name on a sign. Send the request and we email you as soon as your driver is confirmed.
