Flights from Vienna to Skopje are the only year-round direct link between Austria and North Macedonia. Austrian Airlines flies the route all year, on most days more than once, and the flight takes about 1 hour 40 minutes. In summer Austrian also flies from Vienna to Ohrid. This page covers how often the flights run, the after-midnight arrival and early-morning return, what changes between summer and winter, the nearest alternatives if you live far from Vienna, and your options once you land. Austrian Airlines Skopje flights: how often they run

Austrian Airlines is the only airline with scheduled flights from Austria to Skopje International Airport (SKP). It flies from Vienna International Airport (VIE) about 10 to 14 times a week in summer and 10 to 11 times a week in winter, so most days have more than one flight. The same frequencies have been announced for summer 2027, with more of the flights operated by Embraer E195 jets.

You may also see Lufthansa or United flight numbers on the same flights. These are codeshares: the aircraft and crew are Austrian's. Austrian Airlines belongs to the Lufthansa Group and Star Alliance and has its hub in Vienna, so a change of planes in Vienna is a practical way to reach Skopje on one ticket from many other cities.

No low-cost airline flies from Austria to Skopje in the current timetables. The nearest Wizz Air routes leave from airports just across the border, listed further down this page.

Vienna to Skopje flight time and landing times

The flight from Vienna to Skopje takes about 1 hour 40 minutes. That is our estimate from the published timetables and the distance flown; the times on your ticket are the ones to plan with. Austria and North Macedonia are both on Central European Time and change their clocks for summer on the same days, so there is no time difference to allow for.

One rotation in the winter 2026/27 timetable is a night-stop. On several nights a week the evening flight from Vienna lands in Skopje at about 00:10 to 00:15, and the same aircraft flies back to Vienna at about 04:30 the next morning. If you land on that flight, our guide to late-night arrivals covers what is still open after midnight. If you are booked on the 04:30 departure home, the departures guide covers how early to be at the airport.

Year-round and seasonal routes from Austria

Vienna to Skopje runs all year; only the number of flights changes, from about 10 to 14 a week in summer (end of March to late October) to 10 or 11 a week in winter (25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027). Vienna to Ohrid is a summer-only route, covered in the next section.

In autumn 2026 there were also multi-stop charter flights linking Munich and Vienna with Skopje, as part of a charter series running until 13 December 2026. Charters are not regular scheduled routes and change from season to season, so treat them as an extra rather than something to plan a trip on.

Flights from Vienna to Ohrid

Austrian Airlines added a summer route from Vienna to Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport (OHD) in 2026. It was planned to start on 17 May but began in late June after delays and ran once or twice a week until September. The airline has announced it again from 1 June 2027. The flight takes about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Ohrid Airport is about 10 km from the town, opens around its flight timetable and has no regular shuttle bus, and we don't pick up there; the Ohrid Airport guide explains the official taxis and car rental. Outside the summer, or when the weekly flight doesn't fit your dates, fly to Skopje instead and continue by road. A car booked with us from Skopje Airport to Ohrid costs a fixed €145 per vehicle (Skopje Airport to Ohrid by car).

Not near Vienna? The closest alternatives to Austria

Vienna is the only airport in Austria with a scheduled flight to Skopje or Ohrid; there are none from Salzburg, Graz, Linz, Innsbruck or Klagenfurt. Depending on where you live, an airport across the border may suit you better, and all of these routes are flown by Wizz Air all year:

  • Bratislava (BTS), Slovakia: about 4 to 6 flights a week to Skopje, in about 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • Budapest (BUD), Hungary: 2 to 3 flights a week to Skopje.
  • Ljubljana (LJU), Slovenia: about 4 to 5 flights a week to Skopje in summer and about 4 in winter.
  • Memmingen (FMM), Germany, which Wizz Air sells as Munich Memmingen: daily to Skopje and twice a week to Ohrid; see our page on flying from Germany.

Landing in Skopje: getting to the city and beyond

Once you're through passport control you have three realistic ways onward. The airport shuttle bus costs 199 MKD one way and stops at three points in the city; its stops and timetable are in the Skopje Airport bus guide. The official airport taxi rank charges 1,500 MKD to the city on its fixed price list. Or you book a car before you fly: we charge a fixed €32 per vehicle to the city, and the driver waits in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign (book your car from Skopje Airport).

If you land on the late flight from Vienna, check the bus timetable against your landing time. In winter 2026/27 the bus has no departures from the airport between about 19:30 and midnight and only one or two between midnight and 03:30. A car booked ahead also makes sense if you travel as a family with luggage, because the price is per vehicle and not per person, or if you're going beyond Skopje: straight from the airport to Tetovo costs €80, to Kumanovo €75 and to Pristina €135 by car.

Put your flight number in the booking: the driver follows the flight, and there's no extra charge for waiting caused by a delay. The flight delay guide explains what happens if your flight is late or cancelled.
