Flights from Spain to Skopje: the Barcelona and Madrid routes

Flights from Spain to Skopje leave from two airports, Barcelona-El Prat and Madrid-Barajas, both with Wizz Air and both all year. Each route runs two or three times a week, and the flight takes about three hours. The two routes behave very differently: in winter the Barcelona flight lands in the early evening, while the Madrid flight lands after midnight. This page covers the flying days in the current timetable, what changes between summer and winter, what to do if you live elsewhere in Spain, and your options once you reach Skopje International Airport (SKP).

Which Spanish airports fly direct to Skopje

Only two airports in Spain have a scheduled direct flight to Skopje: Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) and Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas (MAD). Both are Wizz Air routes, and both appear in the summer 2026 and the winter 2026/27 airport timetables. No other airline flies direct between Spain and North Macedonia in those timetables, so Iberia, Vueling, Air Europa and Ryanair passengers have to change planes somewhere.

Neither route goes to Ohrid. The Ohrid airport timetables for summer 2026 and winter 2026/27 show no flight from Spain to Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport (OHD), so travellers from Spain heading for Lake Ohrid fly into Skopje and continue by road. The figures below are round trips per week; they vary a little from week to week, so read them as a guide to how often a route flies, not as a timetable.

  • Barcelona-El Prat (BCN): Wizz Air, 2 a week in winter 2026/27 (Tuesdays and Saturdays), 3 a week in summer 2026
  • Madrid-Barajas (MAD): Wizz Air, 2 a week in winter 2026/27 (Monday and Friday evenings), 3 a week in summer 2026

Flights from Barcelona to Skopje

Wizz Air flies from Barcelona to Skopje on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the winter 2026/27 timetable. The aircraft is based in Skopje, so it flies out to Barcelona around midday and comes back the same afternoon, landing in Skopje at about 18:45 to 19:15 depending on the week. In summer 2026 the route ran three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with a later rotation that landed in Skopje just after midnight.

A winter landing at about 19:00 is a comfortable time to arrive, with one catch if you plan to take the airport bus: the winter bus timetable has its last evening departure at about 19:30 on both Tuesdays and Saturdays, and after that there is nothing until around midnight. With 15 to 45 minutes between landing and that bus, passport control and baggage claim may not leave you enough time, so have a back-up plan for that evening.

Flights from Madrid to Skopje

Wizz Air flies from Madrid to Skopje on Monday and Friday evenings in the winter 2026/27 timetable. These are late flights: the plane lands in Skopje at about 01:45 until mid-December and at about 00:55 from late December to March, so a Monday departure from Madrid arrives in the early hours of Tuesday. In summer 2026 the route ran on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and landed at about 00:50.

Plan your first night around that landing time. Book a bed you can check in to after 02:00, and decide in advance how you'll get there. What is open at the airport at that hour and how to handle a landing in the small hours is covered in our guide to landing at night.

Spain to Skopje flight time

Expect about three hours in the air. Barcelona to Skopje takes about 2 hours 55 minutes and Madrid to Skopje about 3 hours 20 minutes. By our estimates Madrid is the longest Wizz Air route into Skopje and Barcelona one of the longer ones, so bring something to eat and drink on board.

These durations are our estimates, worked out from the published airport timetables and rounded to 5 minutes. They are not airline figures, so plan by the scheduled times on your Wizz Air booking. Mainland Spain and North Macedonia both keep Central European Time, so the times you see on the booking need no conversion.

Year-round and seasonal routes from Spain

Both Spanish routes fly all year, so you can travel between Spain and Skopje in any month. What changes is how often: three flights a week in summer 2026 became two a week in the winter 2026/27 timetable, and in October 2026 Wizz Air announced further cuts on some of its Skopje routes. A day that worked last year may not exist this year.

Watch the holidays in particular. The winter timetable shows no Friday flight from Madrid on 25 December, with Friday flights resuming on 1 January. The airports publish their timetables as informative and subject to change, and the winter timetable runs only until late March 2027, so check the exact dates with Wizz Air before you book time off or arrange for family to meet you.

Living elsewhere in Spain: Valencia, Málaga, Seville, Bilbao and the islands

The current timetables show no scheduled direct flight to Skopje from Valencia, Málaga, Alicante, Seville, Bilbao, Palma, Ibiza or the Canary Islands. You have two realistic ways round that.

The first is to get to Barcelona or Madrid and take the Wizz Air flight. If you combine a domestic flight with it on two separate bookings, leave a generous gap and check what happens if the first flight runs late, because on separate bookings the second airline is not obliged to wait or rebook you. Remember that the Canary Islands are an hour behind the mainland.

The second is to fly with one booking through a hub that has frequent Skopje flights. In the winter 2026/27 timetable those include Austrian Airlines from Vienna (10 to 11 a week), Turkish Airlines from Istanbul (about 12 a week) and Air Serbia from Belgrade (about 14 a week); the routes through Vienna and the routes through Istanbul have their own pages. Check with the airline whether it connects from your Spanish airport on a single ticket.

Beyond Spain: the other airlines at Skopje Airport

The routes from Spain are only part of the airport's network. Across the airport as a whole, about a dozen airlines fly scheduled routes to Skopje in the winter 2026/27 timetable, and Wizz Air, with Wizz Air UK from London Luton, flies about three in four of them. The rest are mostly hub connections, useful when your own dates don't fit: Turkish Airlines from Istanbul Airport, Pegasus and AJet from Sabiha Gökçen, Austrian Airlines from Vienna, Air Serbia from Belgrade, Aegean from Athens, Croatia Airlines from Zagreb, Edelweiss and Chair Airlines from Zurich, and easyJet from Geneva. Lufthansa from Frankfurt, LOT from Warsaw and Norwegian from Oslo flew only in summer 2026.

After you land: into Skopje or further on

North Macedonia is outside the EU and the Schengen Area, so arriving from Spain means a full passport check before baggage claim. What to have ready is in our arrivals and documents guide. After that you have three realistic ways out of the airport.

The airport shuttle bus costs 199 MKD one way to three stops in the city; its timetable is in the Skopje Airport bus guide. The winter timetable does have one or two departures between midnight and 03:30, but they may not line up with the Madrid landing. The official airport taxi rank charges 1,500 MKD to the city on its fixed price list. Or you book a car before you fly: we charge a fixed €32 per vehicle to the city, with no night surcharge, and the driver waits in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign (fixed-price transfers from Skopje Airport).

The bus is the cheapest option and works well on the Barcelona flight if you travel light and make the 19:30 departure. A car booked ahead is worth it on the Madrid flight, if you travel as a family with luggage, since the price is per vehicle, or if you're going beyond Skopje: straight from the airport to Tetovo costs €80, to Gostivar €105, to Kumanovo €75 and to Pristina €135 by car, and the drive to Ohrid is a fixed €145 per vehicle (Skopje Airport to Ohrid by road).

Put your flight number in the booking: the driver follows the flight, and there's no extra charge for waiting caused by a delay, which matters on a tight rotation like the Madrid one. What happens if the flight is late or cancelled is explained in the flight delay guide.

Frequently asked questions

Which airline flies direct from Spain to Skopje?

Only Wizz Air. It flies to Skopje all year from Barcelona-El Prat and from Madrid-Barajas, about twice a week each in winter 2026/27 and three times a week each in summer 2026. Iberia, Vueling, Air Europa and Ryanair have no direct flight to North Macedonia in the current airport timetables, so with those airlines you change planes on the way.

Is there a direct flight from Madrid to Skopje?

Yes. Wizz Air flies from Madrid-Barajas (MAD) to Skopje on Monday and Friday evenings in the winter 2026/27 timetable, and ran three flights a week in summer 2026. The flight lands in Skopje after midnight, at about 00:55 to 01:45 in winter, so book your first night's bed and your way into town with that in mind.

Can I fly direct from Barcelona to Skopje?

Yes. Wizz Air flies from Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) to Skopje on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the winter 2026/27 timetable, landing at about 19:00. In summer 2026 it flew three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, landing just after midnight. Check the days for your dates with Wizz Air, because frequencies change between seasons.

Are there direct flights from Valencia, Málaga or the islands to Skopje?

Not in the current timetables. From Valencia, Málaga, Seville, Bilbao, the Balearics or the Canary Islands you either get to Barcelona or Madrid for the Wizz Air flight, or fly on one ticket through a hub with frequent Skopje flights, such as Vienna, Istanbul or Belgrade. On two separate bookings, leave plenty of time between flights.

How long does the flight from Madrid or Barcelona to Skopje take?

About 3 hours 20 minutes from Madrid and about 2 hours 55 minutes from Barcelona. These are our estimates from the published airport timetables, rounded to 5 minutes, not airline figures, so plan by the scheduled times on your booking. Mainland Spain and North Macedonia are in the same time zone, so the clock doesn't change.

Can I fly from Spain to Skopje in winter?

Yes. Both Wizz Air routes, from Barcelona and from Madrid, fly in the summer and in the winter timetables. In winter 2026/27 each runs about twice a week instead of three times, and the Madrid route has no Friday flight on 25 December. Wizz Air announced more Skopje cuts in October 2026, so confirm holiday dates before you book.

How many flights a week are there between Spain and Skopje?

About four a week in winter 2026/27: two from Barcelona, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and two from Madrid, on Monday and Friday evenings. In summer 2026 there were about six, three on each route. The airport timetables are informative and subject to change, and the summer 2027 days weren't published in them on 1 November 2026.

Want a car waiting when you land?
